Body-Informed 3D Printing

In cooperation with Pauline van Dongen, Wearable Dynamics, and TU/e

This project explores how sensor data from body movements can meaningfully influence the creation of 3d printed wearables. Several 3D printable fabric structures were designed that when stretched, produce an optical and auxetic effect.

The fabric structures were then incorporated into a sleeve and 3D printed using an Objet Connex multimaterial polyjet 3D printer.

The aim of the project was to create an exploration for a fashion collection developed within fashion designer Pauline van Dongen's PhD project. Together with movement-based interaction designer Paola Tognazzi, key areas and behaviors on the body were specified and then converted into 3D printable solutions.
